Overview
Book NowThis 28-day motorcycle expedition across Ladakh and Zanskar is a true Himalayan adventure designed for riders who want to explore beyond the usual routes. Covering approximately 3,400 to 3,600 kilometers, the journey combines the iconic high-altitude landscapes of Ladakh with the remote wilderness of Zanskar Valley, offering one of the most complete riding experiences in the Himalayas.
Starting in Leh, the adventure first explores the legendary landscapes of Eastern Ladakh. Riders will cross the famous Khardung La to reach the sand dunes of Nubra Valley, continue to the remote Balti village of Turtuk, and ride alongside the stunning blue waters of Pangong Lake. The journey then leads to the vast high-altitude plains of Hanle, before climbing to Umling La, the world’s highest motorable road at 5,883 meters.
Continuing through the remote Changthang region, the expedition visits the pristine waters of Tso Moriri and the geothermal landscapes of Puga Valley, where the scenery constantly shifts between turquoise lakes, high-altitude deserts, glaciers, and dramatic mountain ranges.
After exploring Eastern Ladakh, the route turns toward the rugged and less-traveled roads of Zanskar. The ride passes through historic locations such as Lamayuru, Lingshed, Padum, Zangla, and the sacred landscapes around Gombo Rangjon. Along the way, riders cross dramatic Himalayan passes including Singge La, Shinku La, Baralacha La, and Tanglang La, each offering thrilling riding conditions and spectacular mountain views.
Beyond the ride itself, the journey offers meaningful cultural and natural experiences. Riders will visit ancient monasteries such as Lamayuru Monastery, Karsha Monastery, Stongdey Monastery, and the breathtaking cliff-side Phuktal Monastery. There will also be opportunities for short hikes, visits to traditional villages, relaxing evenings in remote camps, and nights under incredibly clear Himalayan skies.
Carefully placed rest days allow time to fully experience these extraordinary landscapes — from lakeside walks and photography sessions to quiet evenings around bonfires and interactions with local communities.
With experienced guides, mechanical support, backup vehicles, and comfortable homestays or expedition camps, this journey balances adventure with safety and comfort. It is ideal for riders, photographers, and explorers seeking a deeper connection with the Himalayas.
The best time to undertake this expedition is between June and September, when the high mountain roads are open, and the landscapes of Ladakh and Zanskar are at their most spectacular.
